Nymindegab Museum is an obvious excursion destination when you stay with us at Lindvig! The museum is located in the heart of the West Jutland landscape between the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord and combines art, culture and local history in a vibrant and inspiring way.
Here you can experience a unique collection of art and cultural history with a focus on the local artist colony, the Nymindegab Painters, which was founded in the late 19th century by, among others, Laurits Tuxen. The exhibitions tell about life in the old fishing village, the visits of bathers and the meeting between artists and the local population – an exciting story about the culture and nature of West Jutland.
In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the museum offers an open-air garden, an old sawmill, a café and a playground, so that both adults and children can have a wonderful experience. There are often activities and workshops where children can build small sailboats or try creative tasks.
The museum is ideal for a quick trip from Lindvig – have a cup of coffee in the museum café and enjoy the atmosphere before continuing your exploration of the West Coast’s nature and culture.

Bork Vikingehavn is an experience that gives your stay at Lindvig a historical and living supplement. Here you have the opportunity to get up close to the world of the Vikings in authentic surroundings, where history is not only told, but experienced with all your senses. The reconstructed Viking environment at Ringkøbing Fjord forms the framework for a different and engaging excursion that both adults and children can enjoy.
At Bork Vikingehavn you can step back directly into the Viking Age and experience a live presentation of the Vikings’ everyday life, crafts and ways of life in a reconstructed Viking environment with houses, ships, a sacrificial site, a church and workshops based on archaeological finds from West Jutland. Here you can board the Viking ships, explore the houses and hear stories about the customs of the time, while children can play on the playground and participate in activities such as archery or flatbread baking in season.
Practical information for your visit: Bork Vikingehavn is located at Vikingevej 7, 6893 Hemmet, and there is free parking at the museum. The visit typically lasts 1½–4 hours, depending on how much you want to explore.
The museum is open seasonally with varied opening times throughout the year. During the winter low season (January 1 – February 9), it is closed, but from February 10 to March 27 it is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 am to 3 pm. From March 28 to June 26 and September 1 to October 31 it is open every day from 10 am to 4 pm, while during the summer period from June 27 to August 31 it is open from 10 am to 5 pm.
Admission is normally DKK 175 for adults, and children 0–17 years old have free admission when accompanied by an adult, with special prices at special events such as Viking Market or Loki’s Evening. There is a café on site where you can get food and drinks, as well as a Viking shop with inspiring goods.

Abelines Gaard (18km)

Abelines Gaard is a unique and atmospheric cultural and historical experience, located about 20 minutes’ drive from Lindvig. Here you step into a time warp from the early 20th century, when life on the West Coast took place at a completely different pace. The farm is one of the best-preserved beach bailiff farms on Holmsland Klit, and here you can experience the authentic living rooms, labyrinthine rooms and original interiors that tell the story of the daily life of Abeline and her family, who lived and worked here from 1890 to 1957.
Entrance: approx. 85 DKK per adult. Children 0-17 years old free when accompanied by an adult.
During your visit, you can enjoy coffee and cake in the farm’s cozy coffee shop and explore the small museum shop.
You should expect a visit to typically last 1-2 hours and is perfect for families or guests interested in history. To really experience the atmosphere, we recommend a visit during the high season, when on some days there are also historical activities and rescue exercises at the old rescue station.

FLUGT Museum is a highly recommended excursion destination for those of you who live in Lindvig. The museum is located in Oksbøl and is a modern, internationally recognized museum dedicated to refugee stories, both historical and contemporary, with a special focus on the largest refugee camp in Danish history in Oksbøl after World War II, as well as the conditions of refugees in the world today. The architecture was designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and combines modernity with respect for history, which gives the visit an extra dimension in addition to the exhibitions.
Practical information for your visit: The museum is located at Præstegårdsvej 21, 6840 Oksbøl with free parking for both cars and buses. Admission with an audio guide is included in the entrance fee, and children under 18 have free admission when accompanied by an adult. A day ticket costs approx. 160 DKK for adults, while students with a valid card receive a discount. The entrance ticket can also be upgraded to a 14-day ticket or annual pass, which gives access to several museums in the area.
At the museum you can experience exhibitions about people’s escape over time, personal stories and perspectives on the current refugee situation, which makes the visit both thought-provoking and relevant. There is also a café and museum shop, where you can relax and reflect on the exhibition after the tour. We recommend that you set aside half a day for the visit, depending on how much you want to delve into the stories.
Tirpitz Museum (39km)

Tirpitz Museum is one of West Jutland’s most impressive museums and an ideal excursion destination for those of you who live in Lindvig. The museum is located in Blåvand and is both an architectural attraction and an in-depth historical experience. The unique building was designed by the Danish architectural firm BIG and is integrated into the dune landscape, where it hides fascinating exhibitions just below the surface of the sand.
At Tirpitz, you can follow stories about the history of the West Coast from the mammoths of the Ice Age to the Second World War, where the original German cannon bunker – part of the Atlantic Wall – is the centerpiece of a dramatic exhibition. The museum combines interactive audio stories, dramatic shows, an amber exhibition and personal stories, which makes the visit both educational and relevant for adults and children.
Opening hours are usually daily from approx. 10 am to 5 pm, year-round with a few exceptions around Christmas. A typical day ticket costs around 170 DKK for adults, while children under 18 have free admission when accompanied by an adult. It is also possible to buy a 14-day pass to all the Varde Museums if you are planning several museum visits in the area.
The drive to Tirpitz goes directly through the North Sea Nature Park, it is a longer trip, but the beautiful landscape in itself already justifies the drive. There is free parking at the museum, a café with local dishes and drinks and a shop with design, books and souvenirs.
